New code '081' effective: January 13, 2023

Post-COVID-19 Condition (), commonly known as Long COVID, has emerged as a complex and multi-system disease that is anticipated to require multi-disciplinary management and treatment across the continuum of care. Understanding of  continues to evolve with ongoing research.


Ontario Health has published “Post COVID-19 Condition: Guidance for Primary Care” to support assessment and management of symptoms. To better understand this condition and the associated health care services provided to individuals with , physicians should use the  diagnostic code (081) when submitting claims to  for services provided relating to  assessment and management.


This code comes into effect January 13, 2023 and can be used when treating patients with suspected or confirmed  in all health care settings.

K300A and K301A are COVID tracking service codes. Starting service date October 1st 2021 whenever you bill K080A, K081A, K082A or K083A you must include K300A or K301A.

What is being tracked?

What’s being tracked is how the services were delivered by the doctor. Either the doctor delivered the service using a good ol’fashion phone (K301A) or by Video (K300A).
On the QuickClaim billing system, for example, when you are billing K083A for services that were delivered over the phone you must also include K301A for the same service date as the K083A.
New SOB File Available The latest SOB includes an automatic update to the latest fee codes including all the COVID K codes. Download the Latest SOB File Here Instructions: How do I upload the SOB file into QuickClaim
The same billing example with HYPEMedical can be seen in the image below.

K080A-K083A will need to be followed by a screening code for SERVICE dates starting Oct 01 2021. The screening codes are K300A (for video call) or K301A (for phone call).

E415A is a new premium code for critical care codes (G521, G523 and G522). It's a 30% premium.  

Source: http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/pro/programs/ohip/bulletins/redux/bul210303.aspx This temporary premium is only for services rendered between October 1, 2020 and September 30, 2021. E415 must be submitted with service codes G521, G522, and G523. E415A became a valid service code on March 1, 2021, with an effective date retroactive to October 1, 2020.
So what is the most efficient way to resubmit your G521A, G523A and G522A’s with E415A ?
First step: Create a Quick Service Code for E415A Second step:  In Billing Cycle enter search G521A, G523A, G522A into the service code field in ‘Advance Search’, enter a starting service date of October 1, 2020 and click 'Find'. Third step: Click the blue ‘Edit‘ to place your past claims in a queue. As the claims load, one at a time, click on the E415A Quick Service Code and hit enter to save. Repeat as each claim loads. E415A is programmed to act only on service codes that begin with the letter “G”. E415A’s place as the last service code in the claim is fine since E415A will only act on “G” service codes. With a quick glance ensure that no other “G” codes are present on the claim.

Sessional Billing - Billing Work Done In A Covid-19 Assessment Centre Or A Vaccine Clinic

2 Steps to billing H409A & H410A:

H409A and H410A are billable by physicians who work at a clinic with a “Covid-19” group number. In HYPEMedical that means that another doctor profile has to be created with your particular Covid-19 clinic’s group number. First step: go to ‘Doctors Doctors Profiles Setup’ and create a new doctor profile. Create a new doctor profile identical to the existing profile(s) with one exception - include the group number from the Covid-19 clinic. Service codes H409A and H410A are non patient specific. These service codes require the number of hours worked (not the number of patients seen) at the Covid19 clinic. The number of hours worked are entered as the number of services. Second step: Click on Create Claim. Then click on the 'Claim Details' tab. Have a look at the image below.
  1. On the top panel of the claim form ensure that only the following 3 fields are filed in:
    1.  Prov. : ON
    2. Claim Type: HCP - P
    3. Billing MD: the new doctor profile that you have created in "First step"
  2. In the Service Codes item lines enter H409A or H410A, in #Servs enter the number of hours worked.
  3. Enter the service date in the Service Date field
  4. Click the 'Save' button. HYPEMedical will  display the "You are missing a patient" error popup.  
  5. Check "Save Claim Anyways", and click 'Save' once more.

HYPEMedical will submit your H409A and H410A claims within its normal batch submissions.

BILL K088A & K087A, Non-OHIP Eligible Patients, CORRECTLY !

If you are getting nowhere with your K088A and K087A rejections then this article is for you. 

For K088A and K087A, OHIP is allowing doctors to bill patients with no Provincial or Canadian coverage, that is, unidentifiable patients. The only requirement is a recording of the encounter, in a chart. The patient being unidentified, (last and first names are unusable for OHIP), results in a non-patient-specific claim. Those of you who've billed "bonus codes" will be able to relate.

Claims with K087A, K088A are non patient specific. The fee billed in such claims should equal the value of the fee code multiplied by the total number of patients served during the same day.

For example, if K087A is claimed for 5 patients seen during the same day, the fee billed should be $118.75 (5 x $23.75).

Similarly, claims with H409A, and H410A are also non patient specific. Here you should specify the number of hours worked (not the number of patients seen) at the Covid19 clinic.
Additionally, the Billing MD field value has to be a doctor profile dedicated to the Covid19 clinic's particular group number.

Finally, K089A is also time based and bills similarly to H409A and H410A. Unlike H409A and H410A, K089A must be the total number of half hour units worked (not hour units worked) for all patients served during the same day. K089A can be billed with the existing doctor profile (prior to Covid19).

The COVID19 Temp. Service Codes

Temporary Fee Schedule Codes K080A, K081A, K082A, K083A and H409A became effective March 14, 2020. Claims for services provided on or after March 14, 2020 can now be submitted.

Sessional Fee Schedule Code H410A became effective March 21, 2020. Claims for services provided on or after March 21, 2020 can now be submitted.

A New Diag. Code

You may need to edit your claims to include 080 as the diagnostic code. Effective March 14, 2020, 080 has been created for the COVID-19 outbreak.
The new diagnostic code should be used when treating patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 and/or when treating a patient by telephone/video for suspected or confirmed COVID-19. Use the appropriate diagnostic code when treating a patient for unrelated diagnoses by telephone/video due to COVID-19 related concerns.
